The Aspendos Sustainable Development and Cultural Heritage Management project which is a joint project of The British Institute and Hacettepe University, was funded by the Headley Trust and started in January 2013.

Aspendos is an important but understudied ancient site with many preserved structures. However, it is mostly known for its famous and splendid theater and well-preserved aqueducts. As a result, the project aims to both better present the site to visitors while ensuring its conservation, and to cultivate the support of local communities in order that they might build a stronger attachment with the site both through educational and economical means (for example, getting a share from the tourism revenue).
